Pat Ejenavi: Leading with Resilience and Passion

From newcomer to mentor, Pat’s journey of perseverance, cultural pride, and dedication to mental health is an inspiration to all.

Pat Ejenavi, Supervisor at Empower Simcoe’s Lakeshore Ridge Treatment Home, understands the value of hard work and perseverance.

After arriving in Canada in 2006 from Nigeria as a single mother with two young children, Pat enrolled at Humber College to pursue a Personal Support Worker diploma. To support her family, she worked overnight shifts for a third-party agency.

“That’s where resiliency comes in. I didn’t give up,” Pat reflects. She soon earned a Developmental Services Worker diploma and then shifted her focus to a career in mental health.

"I love being part of someone's journey in mental health," she says. "It's what drew me to Empower Simcoe and Lakeshore Ridge. I'm passionate about working in this field and proud to have been part of the start of this program."

In addition to her work at Empower Simcoe, Pat enjoys celebrating her culture by preparing her favourite traditional West African dishes. “I love cooking and sharing my food with neighbours, friends, my team, and the people we support at Lakeshore Ridge. We’ve enjoyed potlucks featuring Nigerian dishes like puff puff, pounded yam, ogbono soup, jollof rice, fried chicken, and plantain.”

Pat takes great pride in instilling values of resilience and perseverance in those around her.  “Hard work – that’s what I model for my family, friends, and colleagues,” she says. “I always remind people that if I can do it, you can do it too.”
