At Empower Simcoe, we understand the importance of a supportive and adaptive living environment in fostering independence, security, and well-being for individuals of all abilities. Our Accommodations programs are designed to meet diverse needs through a wide range of residential options and supportive services. Whether it’s providing a family-like atmosphere in our group living settings or encouraging self-reliance in supported independent living, our aim is to empower each individual to lead a fulfilling life.

Empower Simcoe provides a number of accommodation options for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Structured, temporary care supporting individuals in developing independence while offering caregivers essential relief within Simcoe County.

Supported Living 

Empower Simcoe provides a number of accommodation options for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Levels of support range from 24 hours support to 4 hours per week. Group Living and Supported Independent Living supports are located in both the cities of Orillia and Barrie as well as in surrounding areas. A number of the group living options are accessible.

Through the use of the Personal Outcome Measures people are supported to make informed choices, increase levels of independence, and to be connected in their communities. Participation in household responsibilities is encouraged as is remaining connected to families and friends. In addition to long-term accommodations, Empower Simcoe also provides respite opportunities for families.

Supported Living Adults

Empower Simcoe provides support to 165 adults across 36 locations in Barrie and Orillia, offering round-the-clock staff assistance. These services are designed for individuals over 18 with intellectual and possible physical disabilities, focusing on community involvement and family engagement in all aspects of life. Participants are encouraged to engage in age-appropriate community activities, enhancing their independence and social connections.

Supported Living children

Empower Simcoe offers comprehensive, around-the-clock support for children with intellectual and physical disabilities in a nurturing environment. Our program seamlessly integrates education at local schools and fosters participation in enriching community activities tailored to each child’s age and abilities. We prioritize family involvement, working closely with parents and guardians to create a supportive, inclusive atmosphere where children can thrive.

Supported Independent Living

Empowering Personal Freedom

Empower Simcoe offers Supported Independent Living for 147 adults in Barrie and Orillia, within their own or shared residences. Support varies as needed, with a minimum of 4 hours per week and no overnight support, focusing on enhancing skills like budgeting, shopping, meal preparation, and community engagement. Designed for individuals over 18 with intellectual disabilities and the capacity to learn daily living skills, our program encourages family involvement in supporting independent and safe living environments.

Supported-Independent-Living
Criteria for Service:
Over 18 years old
Has an intellectual disability
Knowledge of or the ability to learn basic daily living skills
Ability to be safe in their living environment without staff present

Clinical Services
Specialized Care for Complex Needs

Empower Simcoe’s Clinical Services are anchored by our Lakeshore Ridge Treatment Home, a 6,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2022. Situated to provide optimal care, it accommodates six individuals with complex needs.

The Lakeshore Ridge Treatment program is committed to providing individuals with personalized care. Our team of professionals will develop skill acquisition and individualized behaviour support plans based on the principle of Applied Behaviour Analysis.

The home is managed by a skilled team of employees, ensuring specialized and dedicated care for each resident. This program represents our commitment to innovative, comprehensive clinical support in a nurturing and therapeutic environment.

Retirement Living

Tranquil Comfort at O’Brien House

O’Brien House is Empower Simcoe’s dedicated Retirement Living facility, nestled in the peaceful surroundings of Shanty Bay. This 10-bed bungalow is designed for adults over 18 with intellectual disabilities, offering a calm and supportive environment ideal for those seeking a retirement lifestyle. Our residents benefit from 24-hour staffing supports that ensure safety and assistance at all times.

At O’Brien House, we prioritize the promotion of individual rights, informed decision-making, and active community participation. Each resident partakes in the creation of an Individual Support Plan, updated annually with input from the individual and significant others in their life, reflecting our commitment to fostering a self-defined, preferred quality of life.

Residential Respite

Supportive Breaks for Families

Empower Simcoe’s Residential Respite service is a crucial part of our Accommodation Services, designed to provide essential support to families by offering short-term, overnight care for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Operating from fully accessible homes, our program aims to assist individuals in making personal choices, developing new skills, and enhancing independence while providing caregivers a much-needed reprieve.

Supported-Independent-Living
Our Residential Respite services are available for both children and adults who have an intellectual disability and may require additional physical or medical support. This service is meticulously tailored for each individual, ensuring a personal and supportive experience during their stay. Eligibility extends to residents of Simcoe County, with specific geographic criteria for adults.
Criteria for Service:
Person has been diagnosed with an intellectual disability
Children (under 18 yrs old) that live at home with their parent/guardian in Simcoe County and may require physical and/or medical support .
Adults residing at home with their parent/guardian in the designated area: bounded by Elmvale, Horseshoe Valley Road to the north, 9th line of Oro to the east, Simcoe County boundary to the south, and HWY 27 to Thornton and Base Borden from HWY 27 to 90 on the west.
Additional assessment will be made to ensure this respite option is suitable for the individual.

Services are available on a fee-for-service basis, with fees due after booking and prior to service commencement. Accommodation Supports are governed by the Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act and is funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.
